Young Harris
Located in Towns County, Young Harris lies within the “enchanted valley” and is one of two incorporated areas with the other being Hiawassee. Originally called McTyeire, Young Harris is a college town located in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains. Best known for the Young Harris College, Young Harris is also the home of former Georgia Governor and U.S. Senator, Zell Miller as well as the famous Brasstown Valley Resort. Located on U.S. Highway 76, Young Harris boasts friendly residents, the popular Crane Creek Vineyard, and beautiful mountain vistas.
Started by a Methodist minister in 1886, Young Harris College is currently a two-year liberal arts college with plans underway to turn the college into a four-year institution. Despite its small town surroundings, Young Harris College holds a notable profile in Georgia’s social and political history. A significant endowment of more than 100 million dollars and high tech features parallels the college with any “Ivy League” university. And its alumni credentials are impressive including two governors, a U.S. Senator, congressmen, mayors and state legislators.
The famous Brasstown Valley Resort is nestled on 503 acres of beautiful mountain valley land located in Young Harris and the “enchanted valley.” The resort has 102 lodge guest rooms, 32 cottage guest bedrooms and one spectacular 18-hole golf course with some of the best mountain and valley views in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
