Union County Georgia

Located in the picturesque southern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Union County lies within northeast Georgia and contains approximately 323 square miles in area. Blairsville, the county seat, is Union County’s only incorporated city. Unincorporated areas include Neels Gap and Suches. Union County has extensive recreational opportunities and is also the location of the Chattahoochee Forest National Fish Hatchery. The main economy is generated by tourism and some agricultural.

There are many points of interest in the County including the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Lake Nottely which is a 4,180 acre lake located just north of Blairsville in Union County that attracts visitors from all over. Located south of Blairsville, Vogel State Park is approximately 233 acres in area and is adjacent to Lake Trahlyta. Other attractions include access to the famous Apalachian Trail and the Blood Mountain Archaeological Area which was the site of a battle between the Creek and Cherokee Indians. Also on Blood Mountain is the Blood Mountain Boulders which is a popular rock climbing site located in Suches. Trackrock is the location of the Trackrock Archaeological Area and includes Indian petroglyphs. Also within Union County and the Chattahoochee National Forestis the Brasstown Ranger District which has hiking trails. The North Georgia Technical College also operates a campus in Blairsville.
